Garden photosThe surrounding area of Ryokan Yachiyo/Inn Hotel is abundant with trees and has water drawn from Lake Biwako, and is completely in harmony with nature. The seasonal beauty of the countryside has to be witnessed and is quite spectacular. The added feature is that the beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the Ryokan Yachiyo were designed by Jihei Ogawa.The garden does the lighting every evening. The night view is beautiful.
Jihei Ogawa, a Landscape Design Master
Jihei Ogawa, also known as Ueji, a famous Japanese landscape designer, is a master gardener of the Meiji Era in Japan. The gardens at Kyoto Garden Ryokan Yachiyo/Inn Hotel in Honkan and Restaurant was created by the seventh-generation Ogawa. In Kyoto Japan, he created many famous garden landscapes designated as national historic monuments such as the Murinan Garden, Heian Jingu Shrine, Maruyama Park, Seifuso Villa and the Tairyu Sanso Villa. Ogawa is also known as the gardener who created the chisen-sansui (land and water) landscape garden style in the Okazaki area, where Kyoto Garden Ryokan Yachiyo/Kyoto Inn Hotel is located in Kyoto Japan.

The tour has been featured on the BBC, NHK, and in a number of other media outlets. Sites the tour visits include Shinto shrines, traditional workshops, a former geisha area, a cemetery, and a Buddhist temple. Participating costs JPY 2,000 per adult, and is payable in cash only.
